New SEC Rule on Reporting Cyber Security Incidents Effective Today
Now more than ever, cyber security is a team sport. Because of the new SEC disclosure requirements, the supply chain has greater material business impact than ever before.
The Securities and Exchange Commission adopted rules on July 26, 2023 that require regulatory filings to disclose material cybersecurity incidents as well as information on cybersecurity risk management, strategy, and governance on an annual basis. Today on CNBC, Kevin Mandia, CEO at Mandiant mentioned the following on the "SEC RULE ON REPORTING HACKS" segment. "The impact of the attacks has gone up. It used to be you could manage through the breach and there was not material business impact, but today, based on our dependence on digitizing our networks, all going to the cloud, all relying on computer technology than ever before to drive our business, but now, the business impact is higher."
